Bringing biorefining in proximity to biomass

With an apology to traditional Greek and Latin Scholars: We took the liberty to 'latinise' a word that has its roots in Greek (bios: life) and Latin (massa: kneaded dough, lump).

DalinYebo’s GreenEnergyPark™ was develop to bring together the farming (20,000 to 50,000 ha) and chemical industries. The µ-BioRefinery™ is a downscaled adaptation of the GreenEnergyPark™ concept. It takes biorefining to communities and/or smaller farming enterprises (±2,000 to 10,000 ha).

Since 2001, we (DalinYebo and IFT) have had a very simple focus and that is the making of furfural from the C5 fraction of biomass. Naturally, we also find value-added solutions lignocellulose (and sugars). Over the time, we investigated many different processes and products, as well as the feedstocks themselves. Our know-how covers the whole value-chain of biomass harvesting, transportation, storage, conversion and selling of the biobased products. Our expertise covers academic, technical, engineering, contracts, commercial, environmental and operational aspects from project conception to commissioning.

We have patented and sold intellectual property. We have made and learnt from our mistakes. We now own the most amazing 'toolkit' that enables us to provide practical, viable business solutions that are totally sustainable and have a negative CO2 footprint.

Two features that are behind the µ-Biorefinery™ concept: Reduction of transportation distance and biomass storage space

Large enough to sustain a skilled staffing level to operate what is in essence a chemical and power plant.

The µ-BioRefinery™ makes use of simple, fit-for-purpose processing equipment that is installed close to the biomass source. It is based on a smart down-scaling and integration of proven existing technologies (and their mass and energy balance).

Prior to their last 12 years of furfural collaboration, the team behind the µ-BioRefinery™ has extensive working experience in the sugar, ethanol and pulp & paper industries and is supported by a global network of associations with industry professionals. This knowhow is applied across four different implementations platforms of the µ-Biorefinery™:

Sugarcane (incl. sweet stem sorghum)

sugarcane

Agricultural residues (corncobs, sunflower husks, rice husks, oat hulls, etc.)

corncobs

Cellulose (tree tops and limbs, pulp mill liquors and/or waste water, cellulosic ethanol pretreatment)

autumnleaves

(Chemical-) Thermo-Mechanical Pretreatment of lignocellulosic biodigestor feeds
